Court Updates
If you are a victim/witness, our Victim Services office will provide you with Court Updates from the Court Appearances that the accused has attended. It is important that the victim knows what has been happening at those court appearances. Victim Services can keep track of this and advise you about what has occurred, when the next court date is and when/if a Trial will take place.  It is not necessary for the victim to attend court until the date and time they are required to appear as a witness.

Court Preparation

The following resources are meant to help prepare you for court.  They do not replace the advice from experts in the criminal justice system.

  • Understanding The Court Process

  • Preparing Youth For Court

  • Child Witness Court Preparation: For Children, Teens, Parents & Facilitators

Victims/Witnesses are encouraged to read their statement and/or view their video statement about a week before the trial start date. This is to refresh their memory. However, the RCMP members must first give permission and supply the documents and/or video statement.

Court Accompaniment
Victim Services will provide Court Accompaniment, which includes:
  • A support person who accompanies the victim/witness to court
  • The support person will sit with the victim/witness while they wait to testify
  • The support person will sit in the courtroom while the victim/witness testifies
